NATIONAL
JUNIOR HONOR SOCIETY
The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS)
is an organization intended to create an enthusiasm for scholarship,
stimulate a desire to give service, promote leadership and
encourage the development of character and citizenship in
the students of Saint Anthony School. Membership in the NJHS
is based upon five qualities: scholarship, leadership, service,
character and citizenship. Membership is a privilege, not
a right. Academic excellence alone does not guarantee membership
in the NJHS. Selection for membership is made by the NJHS
Council whose decisions on the above requirements. Eligibility
requirements:
1. Scholarship - a student must maintain a 90% cumulative
average with only one C and no D, F, or U grades.
2. Leadership/Service - a student must be actively involved
in service to the school and community and must demonstrate
leadership traits.
3. Character/Citizenship - a student must demonstrate high
standards of character and citizenship.
A student who has been referred to the
administration for a serious infraction of school regulations
and policies will not be selected.A student who is already
a member of the NJHS and has been disciplined for serious
infraction of school rules, regulations and policies may be
dismissed from membership. A member is allowed one warning/
probationary period. The school is not obliged to divulge
or share with parents/guardians and students information concerning
non-selection of any student to membership of the NJHS.
STUDENT COUNCIL-
This is composed of students elected by to represent the student
body. The organization develops leadership traits and is extended
to students in grades five through 8.
ACADEMIC CHALLENGE
BOWL- This is composed of students from grades six
to eight who are well-informed in the academics, history,
current events and the arts. They compete with their peers
from other Middle Schools on the island.
HANDBELLS /HONOR CHOIR
/BAND - -This program aims to develop a love for music.
Students learn to appreciate music as a unique means of expressing
ideas, feelings, and thoughts. Students perform on special
occasions, both on and off-campus.
SPIRIT TEAM / CHEERLEADERS
-This group is organized to lead the student body in cheering
for the Raiders’ in the IIAAG (Independent Interscholastic
Athletics Association of Guam) Sports Teams.
MATH COUNTS
-This is an accelerated program where students participate
in a series of competitions. It aims at producing high levels
of math achievement in middle school students. A team consists
of 20 students from grades seven and eight.
MATH OLYMPIADS
-This math program promotes interest and mathematical excellence
in students from grades four through six to prepare themselves
in end-of-the-year math competitions.
SAFETY PATROL-
This organization assists the administration in fostering
safety, order and good conduct.
YEARBOOK/ SCHOOL NEWSPAPER STAFF-The Yearbook and School Newspaper
Staff composed of grade seven and grade eight students who
assist in the publishing of the annual yearbook and the school’s
semestral newspaper.
SCIENCE FAIR / SCIENCE
CLUB -These programs give the students at all levels
an opportunity to exhibit/demonstrate their scientific knowledge.
SPELLING BEE
-This provides students from grades five through eight skills
in spelling, and develops self-confidence in expression and
self-motivation.
GEOGRAPHY BEE
- This offers students from grades four through eight the
opportunity to exhibit their knowledge in current issues in
our ever-changing world.
PERFORMING ARTS /
PRODUCTION –These develop the student’s
confidence and performing skills by the presentations of actual
performances through intensive training given by the music
department.
COLOR GUARDS
– This provides students from grades five through six
an opportunity to enhance their patriotism and dedication
to the Guam and American flag. They are responsible for raising
and taking down the flags every morning, at school’s
sports event, and ceremonies.
NATIONAL JUNIOR FORENSIC
LEAGUE – A debate program consist of students
grade seven and eight, sponsored by the GATE program local
and national.
ELOCUTION –
A presentation of designated speech for students grades seven
and eight.
OTHERS -Saint
Anthony School students participate in most island-wide/international
contests and competitions the areas of essay writing, poetry,
oratory, poster making, art, etc…
